Chicago Cubs going after Whit Merrifield; imagine this trade

The Chicago Cubs reportedly would “love” Whit Merrifield per Jon Heyman.

Speculation has been flying around since this morning that the Cubs may go after Merrifield, but what would they have to give up? According to Heyman, the price tag is very steep for the second baseman.

This season Whit is hitting .302 with 12 homers and 55 RBI’s. On top of that, Merrifield has posted a 2.7 WAR.

So, what would it take to get him? I’m just going to throw out a hypothetical trade that Mark DeRosa said this morning:

Let me know down below what you think about this trade. Follow our blog and twitter @1N2W_ to keep up with all the trade deadline news!

  1. possibly a very heavy price for a guy who’s 32…. although he is exactly what the Cubs are missing … I think they have to decide if these young guys are ever going to be really good or not dot-dot. Too bad it’s not a straight up trade for Russell or maybe Russell and another throw in
