The first NL All-star ballot is out and we are going to go over some of the bigger surprises.
First off, here is the ballot:
Lets start off at first base. Anthony Rizzo has been on fire as of late, but he is not playing well enough to take over Freeman. Freddie is batting .340 in 250 at bats this season. Brandon Belt is another choice and he has a .307 batting average this season with 11 homers. Who should be the first baseman picked into the all star game? Let us know in the comments.
The second base position is between two players, Ozzie Albies and Javier Báez. Albies has been a stud since joining the league, but he should not be in first. In 303 plate appearances this season he has a .301 OBP with 15 homers. Javier Báez has posted a .250 batting average with 14 homers. Both of these players are very similar in statistics, but I would much rather see Javy at the top of the second baseman ballot because he is one of the most exciting player to watch in baseball.
Third base: Kris Bryant is the best third baseman in the league, that’s all there is to it.
The fans are totally right about the shortstop pick. Brandon Belt has a .307 batting average this season with a OPS of .950. He has also added 11 homers with 31 RBI’s.
The catcher position was also nailed right on the head. Buster Posey has been one of the best catchers in the MLB for the last 5 years, and it is the same this season. His home run numbers might not be up there like some of the others, but Posey is reaching base at a good rate. This season he has posted a .365 OBP to go with his .294 batting average.
I’m not going to argue about the outfield too much, but their is one thing I want to say. ALBERT ALMORA SHOULD BE ON THE BALLOT AND IT IS A JOKE THAT HE IS NOT. He is one of the best defenders in baseball and he also has a 1.9 WAR with a .371 OBP.
Let me know who you think should be at the top of each ballot. Twitter-@1N2W_
