The Chicago Cubs are favorites to land three players in the international top 30!
The Cubs are connected to Richard Gallardo (#5), Jose Lopez (#17), and Joel Machado (#27).
Gallardo is a 16 year old pitcher from the Dominican Republic. He sits at 89-93 MPH with his fastball (which is very good for a 16 year old) and he also mixes in a 70-75 MPH curveball, which has good movement. In the international showcase Gallardo struck out six of the seven batters he faced.
Lopez is a 16 year old too, but he is an outfielder. weighing in at 167, the 5’10” OF has very impressive speed, and even shows a little bit of power. Scouts are impressed with his hard contact to every part of the field, and people believe he will just continue to get better.
Machado is also a 16 year old pitcher. Joel sits at 165 LBS (6’0″) and has a 89-90 MPH fastball with a impressive changeup and curveball. His changeup sits in the 80-81 MPH range, while his curve is around 70 MPH. Machado is still devolping, so we will more then likely see more velocity on his pitches.
