Story of the day: Javier Baez Comments on situation with DJ LeMahieu, Brandon Belt works a 21 pitch AB

Welcome back to our “story of the day”! These are meant to be short stories that are cool/funny/serious.

Javier Baez and Dj Lemahieu

Javier Baez and Dj Lemahieu got into a “shouting fight” after Baez accused Dj of stealing signs while at second. “what a difference it makes when the Rockies don’t know the signs,” Baez yelled at the Cubs outfield. Lemahieu responded with “Then change the signs.” The umpires would intervine, but Baez had some comments on the situation after the game.

“we’ve got to protect our team, our pitchers” stated Baez. “A lot of teams do it, but don’t do it to our face. Because we’re going to do something about it. I don’t care who it is; I don’t care what the result is. … If they don’t like it, oh well. It’s our team, and we’re going to do anything for our team.”

21 pitch at bat

Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants broke an MLB record yesterday, but it is an unusual record. Belt fouled off 16 pitches in an 12 minute at bat before flying out to right field. The previous record was set in 1998 when Ricky Gutierrez worked a 20 pitch at bat.
