As expected, the Cubs extended $17.4m qualifying offers to Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis. If they accept, then they’re under contract through the 2018 season. But if they decline, then they’re now free agents.
The chances of them accepting this deal is so slim. Like impossible. Unless these guys LOVE the Cubs more than they love money, then they’re on their on their own.
The Cubs are already exploring possible starting pitching available this offseason. Talks of Chris Archer, Marcus Stroman, and Yu Darvish have already arose. Bullpen pieces or mainly a closer haven’t been mentioned yet.
If these guys decline, then I’d like to say thanks. Jake was a warrior, and Wade was a Jedi.
