The Chicago Cubs open up their playoff series with the Nationals Friday night, and a lot of people are wondering what the Cubs playoff roster will look like.
it is predicted by many that the Cubs will take 14 position players and 11 pitchers. In my opinion the players below will most likely make the roster.
Position Players- Addison Russell, Javier Baez, Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo, Willson Contreras, Kris Bryant, Ian Happ, Jason Heyward, Alex Avila, Jon Jay, Albert Almora, Ben Zobrist, Tommy La Stella, and Leonys Martin.
I believe that the Cubs will take Leonys Martin instead of Rene Rivera because they do not need to carry three catchers. Martin also provides amazing defense and he is very quick on the base paths. If the Cubs do need a third catcher they could always go to Kyle Schwarber.
Pitchers- Kyle Hendricks, Jon Lester, Mike Montgomery, Jake Arrieta, Jose Quintana, Carl Edwards Jr, Pedro Strop, Brian Duensing, Hector Rondon, Wade Davis, and Justin Wilson.
I do not see John Lackey and Justin Grimm making the roster. Lackey seems to always struggle in the first inning he pitches, and Grimm has not been that good this year. Yes, I know Wilson has not pitched that well either, but I’d much rather have him out of the pen.
We will probably see Joe Maddon announce the roster in the next couple of days.
