Jon Lester has been on the DL for a week or two now, and it appears that he will be back soon.
Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations, Theo Epstein, said in an interview with 670 the score that Jon Lester and Willson Contreras are doing extremely well. Lester is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, and they are hoping that if it goes well they can get him back in a week or two.
Theo said, “When a pitcher has a little bit of a fatigued shoulder, you rest him for a few days, and then things feel better.” Even though they know that he will be ready soon they do not want to rush him back out there. Epstein also stated that they want to work on building his arm back up before he pitches again. Mike Montgomery is filling in for Lester, this year Montgomery has posted a 4.37 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP.
