Sources from Ken Rosenthal confirm that the Rays have acquired Steve Cishek from Mariners for RHP Erasmo Ramirez. Cishek has a 3.15 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 21 innings, while Ramirez has made 8 starts and 18 relief appearances with a 4-3 record/4.80 ERA/55K.
The Rays, who are 53-50, are much in playoff contention and plan to use Cishek in high leverage situations, especially again right handed hitters, according to Ken Rosenthal. Tampa Bay is still looking for relief pitchers even after adding Cishek.
Seattle, 51-52, are also still in playoff contention. Acquiring Erasmo Ramirez could help their starting rotation and/or bullpen, depending on how they would like to use him. He is also a low risk trade because he is 27 years old and no line of injuries.
More trade news to come approaching the deadline.
